Currently, by the Decree of the Akimat of Mangystau region No. 3 dated January 5, 2018, it is included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Monuments of local Significance.

Mount Sherkala (height 308 meters) is a large remnant of unusual outlines, which arose during the formation of the mountain valleys of the Prikaratau as a result of the rise of land from the depths of the sea.

One of the remnants of the chalk mountains included in the Ak-tau chain. Standing alone above a perfectly smooth plain, it attracts attention with its outlines and differs from others. Huge stone balls -concretions are scattered not far from Sherkala. They are found everywhere.

On the northern part of the mountain, outliers formed due to continuous winds. The southern and eastern parts are well-known rocks. Its top is convenient for passing. At the foot of the mountain there is a cave that leads to the top.

"From a distance, Sherkala resembles the holy Roman pantheons, monuments of ancient centuries. The amazing mountain of Sherkala, covered with legends, is a natural symbol of the Mangystau region. From a certain point of view, it looks like a giant yurt erected by mythical nomadic giants in the folds of the Akmysh.

Akmyshtau mountain range

The Akmyshtau mountain range consists of small remnant, picturesque groups. A small valley surrounded by five mountains. A little further to the east of Airakta, ayrtuye (double-humped camel) shines with a bright yellow. To the east of it stands the lonely elongated pyramid of Akmaya (white one-humped camel), and from it to the north the rocky spires of Sholabai rise up, which together with Akmaya create a group of the Akmyshtau mountains.

The Akmyshtau massif is composed of Upper Cretaceous rocks, clays, sandstones, marls, limestones, It is located 4.5 kilometers from the southwestern tip of the Northern Aktau ridge of the Zhaishy Mountain with a height of 312/7 meters above sea level, and 11 kilometers northeast of the northern slopes of the Western Karatau ridge, the northern slopes of the massif are located in the Kurturmas tract, 10.1 kilometers east of Mount Sherkala, 13 kilometers north and slightly west of the village of Shetpe in the Mangistau district of the same region.

The mountains are created by powerful erosive processes as a result of the destruction of chalk and yellow sandstone layers. The height of the peaks is 150-170 m. There are free-standing rocks, When examining the bases of the mountains, there are rock blocks with ancient drawings.

The area is deserted. There are exits of spherical nodules. In the eastern part of the massif there are detached remnants of the meridional direction. In the east of the massif, the main part, there are the most beautiful and often visited by tourists outliers, which attract with their pointed features.

The flat surface of the plateau on the Akmyshtau massif reaches a very small size. To the west, in the form of a ridge, with a length of about 500 meters, a branch departs from the main massif, which ends with separate, grandiose remnants. The main massif of Akmyshtau consists of chinks that break off in all directions. The northern part of the massif consists of destroyed and swollen Cretaceous rocks. The total length of the Akmyshtau massif is small, from south to north, is 1121 meters. The largest width, in the central part of the massif, is 948 meters. The perimeter of the Akmyshtau mountain range is 3340 meters. Nature itself created this temple, these majestic stone remnants of the

Akmyshtau massif adjoin the northern slopes of the Western Karatau mountain range. Without special training and equipment, its possible to climb two peaks. A real overnight stay without the equipment of the site.
